Building a professional organization in Women's Studies |

Athena is a network of women’s studies specialists that has been active in international cooperation in Europe since the early 1990’s. When ATHENA was first supported as an TN by the EU, the stakeholders decided to create an institutional organisation of the participating institutions: AOIFE. AOIFE has been very active in organizing women’s studies programmes at different European Universities. It has organized with ATHENA the big and extremely successful Feminist Research Conferences. It is now clear that the field of Women’s Studies in Europe is so far developed that a professional platform / professional association that unite both individual and institutional stakeholders in the field should be possible. ATHENA3 is resolved to bring this about in the coming period, in close cooperation with AOIFE. The workgroup devoted to this task represents the different constituents of Athena: teachers, researchers, students, women’s centers, equal opportunity experts. The new organization will bring together on a permanent and professional base the experts and stakeholders in this new field of European knowledge production.
