Teaching Empires PDF Print E-mail
The histories of the Russian, Soviet, Ottoman, Portugal, Danish, Habsburg, Swedish, Spanish, German, Nazi, Fascist, Dutch, Belgian and the British Empire recently got into the focus of scholarly attention. Very few studies however focus on how gender and empire can be connected. The explicit aim of the working group is to compare different practices of the empire to construct and be constructed by gendered cultural and political practices. The members after mapping the field propose, and develop teaching modules, material, which can be used for producing a textbook. The analyses should focus on how novels, films, exhibitions, textbooks etc. made the empires, including those sources which are neglected by other scholars of empire.

This subgroup will work within Output Area I: Curriculum development: forging links between education and research in a European dimension and Output Area III: Strengthening cooperation between academic and social and/or civil organizations addressing women or gender differences
