The aim of this group would be to cooperate with university gender studies departments, NGO groups with educational programs and research institutions in the region of former Yugoslavia on the common project to outline, organize, translate and present the specific case of Yugoslav feminism. The chronological framework is defined by the ‘Yugoslav’ (1920 to 1990) period in which the state has had this name. Since Yugoslav feminists have been working in this area, challenging national, cultural, administrative and other inner boundaries, we decided to work within this time span. Red Athena would continue the work already started two years ago. The focus will be on questions like the relation between feminist and political opposition in former Yugoslavia (dissidents), translation as the main cultural feature of the region in the 70' and 80', and multilinguism. The result of the project will be a textbook, to be used in teaching, which will present authors, ideas and schools of Yugoslav feminism.
